To directly answer your question, not if they are good quality, used properly and within spec. I have not had bad experiences with UPSes when they are used ...

There is always just using an actual UPS for this purpose. Get one with a USB port and you could plug the Rasberry Pi into it and then install the appropriate software. When the UPS gets to a certain level, the Raspberry Pi would shut itself down.

Almost a year ago I ordered one of the UPS PIco HV4.0 modules. I'm a long time customer and historically happy with their products.
