RaZberry compared to UZB1

Post by luxus »

which one is better?
its looks like i would be more flexible with uzb1?
there is not much support for razberry except z-way right?

i not plan to switch away from my rpi2 so the "usb" benefit is not so important.

Both RaZberry (5 gen) and UZB1 can be used with 3rd party controller software, so there's actually no big difference here.

According to z-wave certification UZB1 does not support Z-Wave AES-128 Security, which Razberry does.
On other hand Razberry maximum nodes are 3, UZB1 5.
So for me there are differences.
Plus I think that usb port needs more power than GPIO.

UZB1 does support Security, MultiCommand and everything else if you have the appropriate license installed.
Also not sure what you mean by "maximum nodes". Both support up to 232 nodes, which is z-wave protocol maximum. It can only be limited by a license installed (or not installed).

I just wrote what I read on the certificate located on the Z-Wave Alliance site.

http://products.z-wavealliance.org/prod ... /embedpics
http://products.z-wavealliance.org/prod ... embedassoc
http://products.z-wavealliance.org/prod ... embedassoc

So where is the truth, as I stand before choosing.

Please tell me about the license. How to check if UZB1 has a license. My dealer does not even know what the Raspberry Pi is, not mention licesing for z-way. It's written on a box or on the stick?
Or tell me how to buy/get such a licence.

I have the same problem, I bought uzb1 without a license, it works great with Domoticz but not Zway. After a long search ("where tu buy" from http://z-wave.me send for a hardware not a license) found it here: http://store.zwaveeurope.com/index.php?cPath=58_59
it appears that the license itself is more expensive than the Razberry (hardware with license)... that's ridiculous.
So the license is twice the price of UZB1!

The doc doesn't show any command classes for UZB1 at all, so I just assume it is invalid. I assure you, UZB1 supports Security as well as other command classes supported by RaZberry board.

The goal was to make the cheap USB dongle (about half the price of competitors' sticks) for beginners, and if you need advanced features, you just buy them online without buying a whole new device and waiting for it to be delivered. Maximal license costs quite a bit, but still the same exponent as competitors' sticks (and you also can have a range of intermediate licenses, which are cheaper but offer less capabilities, like limited number of devices).
And with license you also have access to controller software, so the entire solution is cheaper than Vera or HomeCenter. Seems rather fair to me.

@Sasza, for me the price for a license its kinda odd too.

@pofs, Only the question was RaZberry or UZB1. If we talking RaspberryPi we talking cheep, so the answer is forget UZB1. RaZberry is half the price with exact same functionality and is much more reliable thanks to GPIO.

"and you also can have a range of intermediate licenses, which are cheaper but offer less capabilities, like limited number of devices" where are they, its hard to find normal one.....

Where can I find these remaining licenses?
Since the price of a normal license is taken from the sky, I will remain with domoticz.
This pricing policy is a dead end to me. I feel cheated by you guys.

@Sasza
@Lolo

Pitty you treat us as cheaters ;(

We never cheated our users and clearly wrote about the licensing for UZB needed for Z-Way.

About pricing, hope you understand it is all about marketing ;) Kidding, there is a reasoning behind it:
  • RaZberry is cheaper in production than UZB (enclosure, antenna, smaller size, more expensinve Z-Wave module). Hence RaZberry is less expensive than UZB+License
  • RaZberry is for RPi only - more limited product, so it is again less expensive.
  • UZB is 3 times cheaper than UZB+Lincese because we love you guys and want to offer you the possibility to use domoticz and other s/w for less money. We offer you the smalles and cheapest dongle (+/- 1 EUR compared to competitors).
  • UZB required development once, then just production (we still improve it, but it is minor). Software requires constant support, so it "eats" more (way more) money and does it monthly.
Hope this explains our "oddnes".

If you want to buy a license, please go here: http://store.zwaveeurope.com/advanced_s ... se&x=0&y=0 or visit your local e-shop.
