Z-Wave.Me future

Post by PoltoS »

Hey folks,

It is time to share with you some important news! As you might have notice, there were less activity last months. In this message I'll enlighten some changes that happened with Z-Wave.Me and existing products.

In short, Z-Wave.Me is closing, but some of our products are reaching new height with Trident IoT.

Let's go product by product (if I missed something, write to me in PM, and I'll add it here):
  • Z-Way is now a product of Trident IoT. New version was just certified: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/ur ... 115986433/ It will continue to work with existing Z-Wave.Me hardware (though some very Z-Wave.Me-specific functions won't be available in Trident IoT Z-Way version - use the last Z-Wave.Me Z-Way v4.1.4 in this case and then get back to the new). All new hardware based on Trident IoT chips (the new CZ20 chip will be available soon) will also work with Z-Way out of the box. If you are an end customer, the public version should become available in March. If you are a business customer, write us for licensing info (yes, now we have real lawyers in the company ;). Trident IoT focuses on the Z-Wave, Zigbee and Matter SDK, so the Smart Home UI and the Home automation engine will not be developed much (at least for now, maybe this will change). We will soon have Z-Way for Android and for ESP32, so many new products are coming! You will soon see more controllers based on the Trident IoT Z-Way SDK (means with Z-Way under the hood).
  • Z-Uno SDK is now also a product of Trident IoT. All Trident IoT DevKits coming in near future should be Z-Uno-compatible.
  • RaZberry 7 Pro, Z-Station, mPCIe, Z-Uno 2 (the dev board, the Shield and the Module) - all those hardware products are available until the stock lasts. Interested in buying bulk quantities of our stock at a good price? PM me! Once the stock is over, a third party manufacturer might pick up some of our products (on Trident IoT chips).
  • RaZberry 7 Pro, Z-Station, mPCIe, Z-Uno 2 - our products are of a good quality and should serve you for a long period. No worries, we will fulfill all the warranty obligations in case of a hardware failure. Our support abilities are very weak, but we are trying to keep answering all e-mails and in help.z-wave.me (with a delay - sorry for that). The final firmware update will be with the Long Range EU (wait for 7.47+). Then no new version will appear (anyway SiLabs won't release any new SDK anymore for those chips). Z-Uno is still updated (check the 3.12 beta), but soon will also become Trident IoT only.
  • Wiren Board based controllers will continue their life. Check https://smartsd.ch/z-wave-me-multi-protocol-controller/ They will also switch to Trident IoT hardware and Trident IoT Z-Way soon.
A few words about the Z-Wave.Me infrastructure:
  • Remote access find.z-wave.me service will stay on for another two years. It's future is not yet clear in Trident IoT as this is not our main product now, so maybe we will close the remote access service with an at least 6 month notice. I personally plan to support this infrastructure till the last customer. For now it works and remains free of charge.
  • All the apps (https://developer.z-wave.me) and firmware storage will soon move to Trident IoT. The old Z-Way will still use old services - they will become available for two years from now.
  • The mobile app will also stay in the store for another two years. Maybe a new one will be released by Trident IoT (you will have to switch). If installed, you will be able to use it forever (even without the find.z-wave.me remote access - the app has a special Remote IP field for remote access via a direct IP - use with VPN only - don't expose Z-Way to the internet!).
  • Voice assistant and ecosystem integrations such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home will last until find.z-wave.me is operating (since they rely on it).
  • Same applies to Cloud backups/restores - you can always make a local backup.
  • Z-Wave.Me GitHub account (https://github.com/Z-Wave-Me/) and all existing public repositories will be soon archived and remain public. No more activity is expected there. You are free to fork them and continue (provided the license is GPL or other free software - check it in the corresponding repo). We still push some code in our GitHub, but the main work is now in Trident IoT (they are private and some might become public in Q2 as it was before).
  • This forum will last two years more. Maybe even longer as this requires very small resources from us. Same for the Z-Wave.Me web sites.
Thanks to all users who supported us for many years. We will do our best to continue supporting the old infrastructure, but of course our goal is to move forward. Hope you will be happy with Z-Way and Z-Uno becoming part of a much bigger company with a strong vision in IoT and home automation. I'm excited to continue this journey with you in my new role in Trident IoT!

Trident IoT is based in Carlsbad, California. It was established with the aim to revolutionize the smart home domain. We are developing products for IoT developers - to help manufacturers make IoT solutions faster, with no pain and no huge development expenses. Our top-level engineers with a high level of expertise in Z-Wave, Zigbee and Matter are sitting in the USA, Denmark, Switzerland, Columbia, Taiwan and other places around the world. Main products of Trident IoT are:
  • CZ20 Z-Wave chip and CM11 Zigbee/Thread chip coming with a very handy SDK for end devices and Z-Way controller software for Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter and EnOcean.
  • Turn-key development of Z-Wave and Zigbee products (from RF design to firmwares and software)
  • Z-Wave, Zigbee and Matter certification (we are an authorized lab in CSA and in Z-Wave Alliance)
