There have been endless discussions with the OpenRemote team, but since their development budget is virtually zero, nothing materialised. Unfortunately their auto discovery algoritms are not in the open publicly available sources. So it is hard to make progress there. On the ZWay side, OpenRemote could use the Z-Wave API, but they could also consider to inteface with the
Virtual HA engine. That is were focus of front-ends like Androis clients, Homekit and iRidium mobile are. (The OpenRemoteHelpers API is not recommended because of its deliberatwe limited functionality)
I have the feeling they are gradually moving away from the open source world, which
as aptly decribed by Pieter Hintjens is a typical emerging life cycle.
In the meantime imho ZWay has progressed significantly, and is actively maintained. It is not that difficult to add other protocols to ZWay. Enocean has recently be added, XML, http, udp, tcp are there. . So for me the use of OR is reduced to mostly a visualisation platform.
If OpenRemote had an (preferrably) XML import facility, it would not be too complicated to create an export module within ZWay that produces such an output. (JSON could do as well, but I beleive XML is to be preferred for exchange between dissimilar systems)
