So very lost...

I think perhaps something is a miss...

I would like to say there is NO clear path from start to finish with this and I really wish there were. There CAN BE!

In the below I am going to start by observing a handful of oversights. This does not mean I do not appreciate ALL the work already done. And if given access to the documentation I would be happy to update it to include my noted oversights.

Let me start with the first basic step I took and that was to load the complete image "razberry.img.zip" to a chip from this page...
http://razberry.z-wave.me/index.php?id=24
That conveniently left out the directions on how to load that image from a windows machine. (someone should fix this) Luckily I knew to find this tool and loaded the image..
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager
THAT DOES NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX. (:
I had to go into the /opt folder and create a symlink from "z-way-server_2015-11-16-09-13-35" to "z-way-server" because the service control script is pointed wrong. (Someone should fix that in the documentation)
I of course could not even log into the machine till I researched the default login information pi/raspberry for the OS/Image (someone should document that) in the directions.

Okay so now I am finally able to access the web interface on port 8083
The directions really do not give me any clarity on this. It would be nice if they pointed you to a page that talks you thorough how to add your first device and first switch and connect them.

I missed the last step to do the manual upgrade.. This happened because you have it sectioned out and I *thought* that upgrading was for people that were not just installing and I thought it self upgraded as part of the install.

And then after there is no clear path...

My question is.. I have managed on my own to figure out how to install a device and as well my remote control (but it does not seem to show up anywhere). I cannot understand how to make the remote control turn on the light. And the directions just END. I did read other manuals but nothing seems clear as to how to do this.

Which Version are you running?
have you visited the ipaddress:8084 ?
there you can go and do a firmware upgrade via the advance tab.

Yes I did upgrade the firmware. (:
The directions never said to go to port 8083 though and well that did not work because I got confused and thought it upgraded its self so I never did that last upgrade step. In part because the directions were so incomplete that I got side tracked from them searching for other directions. I am trying to complete the software upgrade now to see if the features I am missing are in it.

once you have the devices included.
you should go to the EXPERTUI by clicking on the top right of the screen. then go to configuration and see it the interview has completed. you can force for interview again.
You could also click on the interview results and then you can click on each one to force the interview.
Once they are completed then they will show up on the regular UI.
I would set up a logic rule that states when remote is on the light turns on.

Hopefully it helps!

I found this video a while back when I got my Razberry.

It is in Spanish, but you may get something out of it any ways.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Turns out I had some technical issues that were also stopping stuff from working. I figured out how to program my remote and that very expensive passive switch I have. I had to associate it by making the switch active and then sending the program code to it. So all is well there. Is there a way I can cause one of these passive switches (buttons) to activate a scene so that I can cause a sequence of events and let the pi take over in a sense. (:

I usually go an create a light scene. There i turn on or off what ever I want. Then I use a logic rule in orde to call the scene. If I want the scene to turn off then i go and use a delay action.
