Zwave.me stick not working

Hi all,
I have a ZMEEUZB1, which I can't get to work on a Bananapi as well as under Windows. When it didn't pop up in Domoticz, I pulled it from the Banana Pi and inserted in my Windows machine, and downloaded and installed ZWay. The blue light comes on for a second when inserting the device, then goes out. When I check comports in Windows 10, I find it is present as COM2. I changed ports, but does not seem to work.
What I don't understand is when I go to ZWay, network settings, I can't find any setting for the com port. It came up with 9600 baud as default, but I read somewhere it could go much faster.
So questions:
- is the only evidence of the device working the fact that it shows up in Windows device manager as a comport?
- where can I check or set the comport?
- any other ideas?
