2 issues after adding a new device

Post by todolit182 »

These issues may be completely unrelated but they happened around the same time, so it's possible they are.

A little background. I've had 4 Linear dimmer light switches controlling overhead lights for around a year with my home security system. Haven't had any issues aside from the poor performance which always bothered me (command must go to the service provider, then down to my control box over cellular, then to the lights). The other major downside is no HomeKit support. Several weeks ago I purchases some Hue lights and was immediately hooked. The speed is instant and works with Siri too.

I set out looking for a ZWave home kit solution and came across this product here running on a raspberry pi. I promptly picked one up and over this past weekend put it all together. 2 out of the 4 lights had no issues being included in the network at all. The other 2 lights took numerous attempts but I finally got them included. I spent Saturday hacking at the homebridge setup and finally got all the lights working with Siri. It's really cool to be able to control both the Hue and ZWave devices with my voice.

I couldn't contain myself and on Sunday bought a ZWave controlled door lock for my front door. I had it delivered same day, so yesterday when it arrived I set it right up. Took about 10 minutes to install and it was included right away.

Now, with that background out of the way, here are my two issues at the moment. I'm not sure where to go from here:

1) It is a Yale Security, keyless entry. Like I said, it was included immediately and everything seemed to work fine, except that it doesn't report proper status. It locks fine and unlocks fine, but it always reports as Unsecure. I'm not sure if I should contact the manufacturer, but figured I'd start here first in case anyone has had a similar experience.

2) I installed the lock at night and after I installed the lock, 1 of the light switches no longer responds to the ZWay. I'm not positive it is related at all to the lock install, but I'm not sure where to go from here to troubleshoot. This was one of the switches that had a tough time being included as well. It is showing up with a status of off in the device menu and whenever I try to turn it on, it attempts to turn the light on and then changes status back to off right away.

I don't have much experience at all troubleshooting these devices as they've been working fine the whole time under the other controller. I had no trouble excluding them from the network from that controller as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Other than this two problems, I think this setup is great and there isn't anything else like it on the market at this time if you're looking for control and programmability like using homebridge for HomeKit support.

Thanks

After poking around just now in expert mode, it's reporting that the device "Seems to be dead" and that the Interview is incomplete.

Should I attempt to re-include it? The light switch itself is working to turn on and off the lights, fwiw...

Okay, well... Just got off the phone with product support from Yale. The guy asked me to remove the battery cover and read him the letters on the zwave modules, which started with US (I'm assuming he wanted to confirm that it was the US frequency one).

He then told me to do the following:
1) Move the controller within 3 feet of the lock (not able to actually do this, but...)
2) Exclude the lock
3) Include the lock
4) Wait 5 minutes
5) Move the controller back to where I have it now...

Well, after the phone call, I took a look at whether I'd be able to get the controller within 3 feet. It's possible, but not trivial to do since I'd have to move a much of wires. Figured I'd wait for the little ones to go to bed before I attempt that AND...

The lock is now reporting proper status! hmmmm...

All I really did was unscrew the batter door, read some letters and numbers there and screw it back on.

I'm happy for now...

Other light switch is still marked as dead...
