OpenRemote is an Integration and Visualisation platform form home automation. There is free community version, and a paid for professional version. For Z-Wave, OpenRemote has a limited native Z-Wave implementation.
Openremote seems to me a nice complementary product to Razberry. It is relatively simple to configure good looking interfaces for Web browsers, IPhone/Ipad, Android.
After quite some time of learning and playing, I have found an integration approach that means simplicity for users. The integration is driven using the standard OpenRemote HTTP protocol. I do use the Z-Way API automation engine to hide the complexities for OpenRemote users.
I have summarised my experiences in the first 6 posts of this OpenRemote Forum thread
Sofar I only support single and dual binary switches, which have proven to work fine.
Thanks to the patient help provided by Serguei, and Marcus Redeker from OpenRemote I got this working.

Linux is not a language, but the operating system that runs on Raspberry Pi. What you must know about it is very basic. I.e. how to copy a file, and how to edit a line in an existing file. You'll definitely find something about that on the raspberry.org pages.
Here (http://www.youtube.com/user/openremote) are a number of videos to give you an impression on how to work with OpenRemote in general and with different protocols.

I'll review the instruction to see how I can make the installation of the RaZ-OR module simpler for users.

OpenRemote does have some login facilities, but I have not looked into those yet.
Creation is done in a cloud service called Designer. You there model your devices, and interfaces for Web, iPhone or Android. Straightforward control of devices is simple configuration work. Schedules and complex scenes have to be defined in a rather awkward rules editor, which ultimately may require moderate Java programming experience.

Yesterday I went to the / opt with Raspbian explore. I found the entire system and place to put the "Raz-or" module. If I understood the tutorial after your link OpenRemote is this module that will communicate with OpenRemote Designer and Android version.
The only thing that bothers me is that you mentioned "cloud service", but I want to stay local and outsource anything. Is this possible?

Open remote is as the name suggests open source, so you can download and install the sources of the free version on your own machine. I never bothered to do that, but some commercial parties that don't want to rely on external cloud services have gone that route. There are a few threads about that I beleive. It is also documented to some extent.

If you want to know more, search the OpenRemote User forum and other OR documents.

There is quite some activity lately on the OpenRemote forum topic RaZ-OR thread . An example implementation is emerging where the OpenRemote controller is also running on the Raspberry. At the moment focus is on extending the RaZ-OR module.

I tested the RaZ-OR module with the new Razberry sw of 17-05-2013. It is up and running fine for an hour now. I added a paragraph about handling Razberry updates in the HowTo.
