Daughter board vs USB Stick.

I'm looking to buy a Razberry daughter board rather than the USB stick, but I have a friend who had problems with the USB stick drawing too much power and becoming flakey in operation, he had to fix it by using a powered USB hub.

Ultimately the USB & GPIO draw their power from the same source, the incoming USB power, so my question is:

Can the daughter board suffer from the same problem of not enough power and how can I fix it if it does?

Both daughter board and usb stick are using much less than 0.5A available for usb devices.
Your friend probably has some defective stick, as it is not normal for stick to consume that much power. It should be hot as hell!
