Unable to get started with ZMEEUZB1 on RPi/z-way-server

Hi,

I have just received a ZMEEUZB1 and want to use it with my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B v1.1
I have the http://razberry.z-wave.me/z-way-server/razberry.img image running on the Pi and updated the z-way-server to version 2.2.0 as described in http://razberry.z-wave.me/index.php?id=24

When I boot up the Pi I can see that the blue light of the ZMEEUZB1 lights up for a second or so and then switches off again.
I can log into http://192.168.1.2:8083 but for some reason the z-way-server is unable to communicate with the ZMEEUZB1. If I look at the events I'm only seeing events like this:

Code: Select all

Cannot start Z-Wave binding: Error: Bad data - communication failed
Is there anything I need to do to get this to work with the ZMEEUZB1? Is there additional firmware for the dongle that I need? Or any other steps that need to be taken?

Ping? Anyone an idea? Should this work as-is or do I need additional firmware or licenses or something like that?

To run Zway you do need to purchase a separate license. (The RaZberry addon does have the license included, and is much cheaper, but also less powerfull. )

Thanks for explaining! I could only find this license here: http://store.zwaveeurope.com/product_in ... s_id=12945 which is quite pricey at EUR 60. Are there other places where I can get a (hopefully cheaper) license?

BTW I don't fully understand why the ZMEEUZB1 is being sold without a license. Is there any point in having it without it?

It is placed in the market as a very cheap ZWAVE controller that you can use with many other Zwave based home automation products. The license does give you access to the ZWay software. I haven seen any lower prices.
If you do not plan on more than some 20-30 devices, and don't poll them every second, you may try to trade your UZB in for a RaZberry add-on board for RaspberryPi. That device is considerable cheaper, while having included the license.
