Unable to load data - now what?

I downloaded a fresh image from the site, updated the firmware and can connect to the web interface.
However, when I try to add a device, the web UI immediately says "unable to load data". If I start it from the command line, there are a few access denied errors in the log (see attached).
How do I go about troubleshooting this. I was expecting it to work out of the box
