Is there a way to revive a dead ZW0500 controller ?

Hi,
I have a ZW0500 controller that did not survive an upgrade to 2.3.8 a while ago.
After the upgrade it refuses to respond and just gets very hot.

I bought a new ZW0500 replacement that has been working well since.

I have some hardware tools. like ch-341 serial, or Arduino burner tools.
would be nice to recover a 50 Euro device.

Upgrade of Z-Way from anything to v2.3.8 could not break the board - trust me ;) So it is important to know what lead to the damage. If it overheated when being powered, then it is certainly wrong pins or some short circuit. How LEDs are doing when powered?

Its up in the loft. I didn't touch it.
Might have been an earlier upgrade, as 2.3.5 or later.
Its broken now though. can I force a firmware fix ?

Are you sure it is a firmware issue? It might be a hardware issue.

I'm not sure of anything.
All I did was an upgrade to 2.3.8 (or earlier)
No hardware changes at all.
It was working 100% before the upgrade and 0% afterwards.
After many reboots and power resets, I gave up and restored my settings to my old zw0300 device.
Then I bought a new zw0500 device that I am now using.

I was just wondering if I could recover the failed zw0500 so I could use it as a backup device.

Please provide symptoms and we try to diagnose remotely.
