RPi3B+ w/ Razberry 2 to RPi4 w/ Razberry 7 Pro migration

Post by cesarvog »

Hello,

I'm trying to find the best course of action to transfer my z-wave network from a current Razberrry 2 interface into a new Razberry 7 Pro interface I just got. Any help aimed at avoiding downtime, and/or the need to re-pair more than 60 z-wave devices currently in my network will be very much appreciated.

I understand it's possible to do it in place (that is, on the same Raspberry Pi), using the following procedure:

a) Save the backup of the RaZberry in Expert UI
b) Replace the board
c) Restore the backup in Expert UI

The problem is I would like to also replace the current running Raspberry Pi 3b+ and Razberry 2 card with a brand new Raspberry Pi 4 and the new Razberry 7 Pro card...

TIA

It just occurred to me: is it possible to IMPORT the network from the Razberry 2 card if I shutdown the current Raspberry Pi 3B+, remove the Razberry 2, install it on the new Raspberry Pi 4 and boot it? Is there any risk of erasing the contents of the Razberry 2 NVRAM if I do that?

Additionally, would it be possible to perform the intended migration by adding the new system as a secondary controller, then promoting it?

Sorry for so many questions, as I've been reading a lot of posts in the forums, but haven't yet figured out the best migration strategy.

To start with you need both backups.
ExpertUI and also - Settings - Backup & Restore.

Your 2nd option With a Pi4 and Pro7 card is what i'd do. Leave the old pi3 as a working backup system.

On The PI4 with pro7 board attached.
Either download the Image, or build the raspberry yourself.

I'd Install Buster or Bullseye. (setup and get Raspberry as you like it)
Install z-way 3.2.3
Restore the backup (from Backup & Restore) with network topology.
That should work.
Raspi 4 - (Buster - 32 Bit) Zwave Version 4.1.1, Raz 7 Pro, Serial API Version: 07.38

Thanks @micky1500
Will try and report back as soon as I have all needed components (PSU, RPI4, new uSD card, etc.).
Best regards

Many thanks once again.
I followed your advice and it worked straight away.
It took me longer than I anticipated because I never thought it would be so difficult to get a new Raspi4... Crazy times we're experiencing...
