Razberry 7 Only Works in Z-Wave.Me custom OS image

I'm new to the Razberry and I have it physically installed on my RPi 400.
When I attempt to use a basic Raspian or Ubuntu OS on my RPi 400, Z-way installs fine but never is able to bring up the Razberry 7.
When I use the custom Z-Wave Raspian image, everything works fine. The Razberry 7 is detected and I'm able to include new devices into the network no problem.
My preference would be to use my own OS image but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've tried both 32-bit and 64-bit versions Raspian and Ubuntu but that doesn't seem to matter. One thing I've noticed is that for Z-Wave.me custom image, uname -m reports the architecture is armv7l while all versions (32-bit or 64-bit) of Raspian and Ubuntu that I've tried report aarch64
What am I doing wrong here?
