Zway and Home Assistant loosing status (not provided)

Post by smart home »

Hi,
I'm using Zwy since couple years and I'm quite happy with it, if works and I don't have to get a backup restored ;-)

In my Zway environment I'm using Z-Wave devices (Multisensors, Blinds, Wall Plugs, Smart Sockets for Bulbs, etc.) and Enocean Switches to turn on and off devices.

I'm now using homeassistant (Home Assistant) (Raspberry Pi 4b, 8GB) as my primary system to connect all my different Smart Home systems and protocols.

I have connected the Razberry 7Pro (Raspberry Pi 4b, 8GB, with Zway Software 4.1.4, SDK Version: 7.21.00, Serial API Version: 07.42) to Home Assistant (2024.12.4 (17.12.2024)) via ws://IP-address:8083 and the User token/API Key from Z-Way Server /(dedicated HA - Admin user)
.
In the past both worked perfectly together , I get the Z-wave devices shown in my Home Assistant Dashboard, and can switch them on or off, or just see the status on my wall displays.

It happens from time to time, that I lose the connection to the Zway Server or at least the devices become unavailable in Home Assistant Dashboard, even if they have been refreshed shortly before. I checked the User, that loggs in into Zway and get the information for HA, and that seems to work fine. Last login Date / Time is the time I restarted Home assistant or when I pushed the button in HA to refresh the Integration. So connection seems to work but for some reason the devices are still unavailable (greyed out) in HA Dashboard and also on the Z-Wave Integration side ("not provided").

couple times this happened after an update in HA or setup, I then revert back to an backup and most of the time it worked, an estimated, the update was the reason for breaking the connection.
But I don't understand in those cases, where I have not changed anything, why it happens then to loose the connection or Status / devices is "not provided"...
Any ideas or solution how this can work together in a reliable way? Or what can I do, to manually connect them again?
I'm not a developer, just end user...

Thanks upfront
BR

The quick answer, the day an update for HA comes out, do not update. I have a dev setup that is part of the HA Beta program. The best course of action is to wait until the .1 or even better .2 release every month. HA seems to break the Z-Way integration and is usually fixed in the .1 or .2 release. It isn't like this every month though as there are many months that whatever the issue is, isn't in the initial release.

There is a saying, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Unless there is new feature released in the .0 release, it is not worth updating to it. Not every issue is caught during the Beta phase.

I totally agree, and as you can see I upgradet to .4.. I always wait until they release .3 or .4 Updates before I update my system and only If I really need the new feature...
