Good afternoon All,

Since my Z-Uno has been recognized by Vera, I've started with the addition of sensors, but then, I really got confused.

The DS18B20 hook up to the Z-Uno, didn't make sense to me, so I hope someone can explain the setup to me.

From what I understand, one should not connect 5 volts to input, yet the diagram shows powering up the sensor via the 5V output from the Z-Uno, the data output from the DS18B20 is connected to either pins 9, 10 or 11, instead of the AD inputs like 3,4,5or 6, why?

The data pin should be connected to pin 11,OW. This is correct. But the power should be 5V since the sensor requires 5 volts

OK, in response to your answer, will using the 5v obtained form the Z-Uno card affect anything, if not I could use a TMP36 and a TMP35. When is it NOT recommended to power Sensors with 5 Volt, in order to avoid damaging Z-Uno.

DS18B20 gives very small current and can not damage Z-Uno. It works perfectly with the Shield and with Z-Uno. We hae tested up to 32 of them

sorry, just to be safe I would not use 5V for the 18B20 with Z-Uno.

The logic signal will be >3.3V on the output of the 18B20 what is not recommended for the Z-Uno chip (I have tested it on several sensors).
@Poltos - you are really sure that it is safe for the chip? Would be good to know.

And - the sensor does not require 5V - it is working from 3.0 ... 5.5V.

So I would try to use the 3.3V output, or work with a logic level converter for the data pin if using 5V.

Well, we even have official examples in our web site.

This is data pin with very low current, so looks to be safe
