Raspberry Pi 2 network auto negotiation issue?

Checking in if anyone has run into this problem before. I have an old aruba S1500 mobility switch and i plugged my raspberry pi 2 running pihole into the switch. The switch was stuck in auto negotiation progress. I'm a network engineer so thought no problem I'll just statically set the speed/duplex and turn off auto negotiation on both the pi and switch. I did that and I lost my link. Turned auto negotiation back on and still no dice. I'm thinking it's just an issue with the aruba switch though. I plugged it into a cisco asa and configured a port for my inside network. The pi came right up in that configuration. I did some research but nothing came up and I hope this is an ok place to ask this question.
