Apple home can't find z-way-server HomeKit

Post by seppo »

I'm running in Ubuntu 22.04 z-way-server 3.2.3 installed from .deb package.

The home application in iPhone does not find the HomeKit server. Entering the code results to minutes of wait in iPhone and after that nothing.

An earlier version used to run in the same computer but it stopped working for unknown reason with Ubuntu 21.04. With AppleTV in the network I could also control zwave devices while being out from home. Possibly dist-upgrade in ubuntu caused a fail or iPhone update. Since that I've moved the server out from public IP address to be behind a router. I haven't unblocked ports in the Google mesh wifi system that I use now. Does connect from iPhone in the same wifi network as server require ports open to public internet?

I was using earlier home bridge but stopped because I could not find a maintained zway plugin. The one that I found was unreliable and caused false fire alerts to family's phones.

Avahi discover finds some HomeKit resources:

Code: Select all

$ avahi-discover | grep -i home

I don't see in z-way-server.log anything about iPhone's connect attempt. Ideas how I should start debugging this problem is welcome.

Or question put other way - is anyone able to use with their current iPhone / iPad iOS 15.5 the z-way-server Homekit plugin?

Is the avahi-discover running on the same Pi? Sure your router does not isolate broadcast from the Pi? HomeKit requires broadcast packets to work properly in the LAN.

Thanks! Apparently it was the problem, now it's found.
