multiple open/close wired/wireless sensors in one?

Post by sirelboe »

hey guys I have a quadruple window (4 windows right next to each other) and want to put a wireless zwave sensor on all 4 but do not want to put 4 separate wireless sensors, is there a way to put one "wireless" sensor in and wire up 3 more "wired" to the other 3 windows? in other words I want to add 1 wireless sensor wired to 3 other cheapie hard wired sensors to trigger the 1 wireless sensor if any of the 4 "wired" or "wireless" windows are opened?

thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Quite a few of these window sensors do have the option to add one extra sensor. If you want it really cheap, you can use this secondary contact to daisy chain three "reed switches". That makes that you can detect whether one is either open/closed, and for the other three you can assume that either all are closed or that at least one of the three is open.

cool thanks "pz1"
can u (or anyone else) recommend a compatible zwave open/closed sensor that has this feature? I have a honeywell L5200 keypad alarm (zwave & GSM modules) and a vera edge home controller.

I do have a Vision ZD2102EU 2013, which has a secondary connector. (I haven't tested it with the setup I described)
The latest (5gen) version seems to have some problems though. Fibaro does have a door sensor, with an additional binary contact plus the possibility to install a temperature sensor.

You can easily make a 4-channel sensor with Z-Uno board (when it will be available on the market :) )

Do you happen to have a link?

I believe there's no English resources available yet, but here's a Russian one with Google Translate. The translation is a bit rough, but good enough to see the hardware specs. There's also a demo video in the bottom of the page, which shows how to turn the board into a simple binary sensor, or into a 5-channel switch.

This device was already presented at CeBIT, but it is still a prototype. Don't expect it before summer fall.

On the other hand, if you don't really care to know which of the 4 windows was opened, I think you can just connect all the wired sensors sequentially, and connect them to the wireless sensor with external port (like that ZD2102EU suggested by pz1 above).
