RazBerry Range

Post by tonyg »

Hi,
I have 14 stella z valves attached to radiators but I can only get 3 of them to link with the razberry. This was done through a homegenie image for the pi. The software provided with razberry , razor I could not get to connect at all.
I am wondering if the range is limited on the razberry or if there are any tips and techniques I can use here

  1. Which version of RaZberry have you installed?
  2. Do you see the devices in the Expert view? (raspberry_IP:8083/expert)
  3. What other Z-Wave devices did you include?

I'm using version 1.7.

I have a tkb switch and an Aeon Multisensor which work , both of which after several attempts were eventually recognised.

I am wonder if its a matter of relays and signal strenght since the ones which are closer and/or in line of sight have connected.

Would a more viable approach be to include a load of relay nodes?

I think so. I run 5 StellaZ, with 7 switches spread over the area, and two additional Aeotec range extenders

Are the switches you use relay nodes as well?

Yes they are, and with only the switches the StellaZ were pretty reliable already, except for one which was mounted in an awkward corner. There the Range extender helped. The other range extender was installed to reach an other building some 15 meters apart from the house.

Which switches did you go for? were they difficult to fit? who supplied it?
Your use of openremote intrigued me enough to go and try it out. I'll let you know how it goes!
thanks for your help pz1

I think I have these : http://www.pepper1.net/zwavedb/device/144. Don't know if the still sell them. It was a bit hard to get them into my standard 4 or 5cm deep mounting holes.
They used to self-report status changes, but they have lost that ability. Son't know if that is because of the newer RaZberry software. I had it happen with v1.3, but could fix it there with a recipe from PoltoS. Had not yet the time to check that with the newer versions.

Be aware that running RaZberry + OpenRemote is a bit heavy for the Pi. I do run OR controller on my Synology NAS, while I do use RasPi as a kind of Z-Wave Gateway. At the moment I am concerned with stability issues for the combination of the two. With the new OpenRemoteHelper module my system tends to crash after a couple of days. I think it has to do with too frequent polling of RaZberry. (OpenRemote does not seem to have a means to receive status updates pushed by RaZberry via its REST API)

I am interested in how you get on with this. Be aware that the documentation on this at the OpenRemote side may be outdated.

Thanks for the heads up ! Yes, the docs are outdated. Its interesting that the the Razberry pushes updates through a rest api. I going to trawl the documentation and see where that is set.

How does the razberry know where to access the rest api interface do you know?
