Config Not Saving: Stay On This Page

Post by markolbert »

I've been using the expert UI to name my zwave devices. But I keep running into a problem where the names aren't retained between browser sessions. In other words, I rename a device from, say, my desktop system. But when I surf to the expert UI from my tablet the devices are still named device 1, device 2, etc.

I'm wondering if this is related to the warning I get when I'm in the expert UI and want to leave it about "you have changes, are you sure you want to leave this page". It isn't obvious what I need to do to save things -- other than press the Save button, or the Send Configuration to Device button, both of which I've done multiple times without solving the problem.

So what's the trick for getting device names to "stick"?

I am having the exact same problem. The changes device names stay cashed in the browser in "old blue" but if I reload the page in another browser the name changes are gone. When I close the browser it asks "You have unsaved changes are you sure you want leave this page?" there is the little "save" button on the bottom of expert mode but it is greyed out.

It seems that there is some save functionality that is not happening?

Anyone have an idea whats wrong here?

I had this problem as well and figured it out on accident one day when I found the solution just briefly mentioned in the documentation for "old blue."

On the main page of old blue add the items to the map. Once added to the map right-click the node in the tree view on the left side (you must click "show nodes in tree" along the bottom for them to be visible there). After you right-click one of the options is to "Rename the device." Rename it there and click the save button along the bottom. If you aren't using the map you can ignore them on the map, or even remove them from the map and the names will be retained, but they have to be added to the map to rename them.

That is what finally worked for me. This also saves the name from where the iOS app pulls the names from, and is used for the mobile jquery ui. I'm not sure why renaming the devices in the config doesn't work, but I fought with that for quite a while myself. In v2 renaming the devices works perfectly, but it won't update the names for the other U.I.'s (same for renaming them in the HomeAutomation UI, which keeps tracks of names seperately it seems).

Thanx for the tip, Erasmuz, but I can't select any device/node in the tree, let alone rename it. The devices are simply not selectable (but visible).

So you have been able to add the device to the map?

If so (I know it's odd), but you have to right-click. Normally in the browser this brings up the save page, view source, etc menu, but the right-click here was overwritten in the browser to allow for the rename/remove from map functionality. I've only tried this in Chrome, so it may also be an issue with the browser not allowing the right-click functionality.

No, I can right click. But only on the zone names, not the device nodes listed under them.

When I right click on a zone name a context menu does come up. So I think the right click functionality is working. It's just not available for some reason on the device nodes themselves.

Ok, I just tested it and figured out a missing crucial step (sorry).

To get the right-click context menu on the nodes you have to be in the "Node Placement" mode.
So if you click the button along the bottom that says "Place Devices," then put the device on the map (or ignore that if they are already there), theeeen right-click hopefully it will work. I noticed the right click will only work when the nodes are on the map, so you'll have to drag them over to the map, then right-click, rename, and save.

Hopefully that will get it working for you. Sorry I missed that step.
