Ubuntu Setup

Post by ptmuldoon »

I apologize if this is easier then is seems, but I'm struggling with understanding how to go about setting up and installing the Z-Way software on a headless Ubuntu Server... latest 14.04 version.

I have it downloaded and extracted. But really not sure what else is necessary and haven't come across any good tutorial just yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I slow dive 'head first' into the Zwave fun :)

Thanks

Did you ever come across anything? I found the rPi install script (http://razberry.z-wave.me/install) and it can be modified to get the basic system working. I have not been able to figure out how to get the ZDW operational for automatic updates or the finder service.

OK, got a reply from Poltorak Serguei (PS) via email:
Install script, webif and mongoose are not available on Ubuntu/Debian. Unfortunatelly we provide them only for some platforms. Please let me axplain what is missing for you and how to compensate it:
  • mongoose + webif - helps to make basic setup of IP/timezone (you have it on Ubuntu via more user friendly system settings), Z-Way easy installer (instead you have to unpack manually and move data from old to new versions - we will soon make a .deb package to fix this) and UI for zbw_connect (this is now embedded in the Z-Way itself). So, in brief you are missing only Z-Way installer/upgrader.
  • zbw_connect service is not installed by default, but since it is a simple shell script, you can use the one from RPi or Alix - it will work. May be we will include it in .deb package too.
So basically, install it manually. If you can run the server manually without any module issues you are good. Setup your system to use a static ip internally and don't use the zbw_connect option, use dynamic dns or something else.

When it's time to upgrade be careful and manually move/save your configuration files.
